Star Wars Standalone Movies Confirmed

CEO Bob Iger confirms that Disney will be going ahead with the rumored Star Wars standalone movies

It's been Star Wars rumor galore in recent months. Since Disney bought Lucsasfilm and all the rights to the Star Wars series along with it, every Tom, Dick and Harry has been making assumptions and taking stabs at whatever might be in the works. A few of these stories have been proven accurate, J.J Abrahms coming on as Director for example, whilst some of them have remained just that, rumor.

A few months ago we heard that there would be a Seven Samurai inspired Standalone movie, within the Star Wars universe. While this hasn't been EXACTLY confirmed yet, we have just learnt that Disney are indeed making stand alone movies, that will be coming out within the same time frame as the next trilogy.

Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke with CNBC on the subject recently, and stated the following;

"We are in fact working on a few stand-alone films. Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Arc, The Empire Strikes Back) and Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, Jumper) are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. So we plan to make Star Wars VII, VIII, and IX over roughly a six-year period of time starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time too."

Iger did not go on to confirm what characters or stories would be covered within these films, so we could be seeing a Yoda, or Boba Fett movie in the near future, or maybe even that Seven Samurai rumor will end up happening...
