Disney/Lucasfilm Acquisition complete!

No doubt you would have heard at some point over the last few months, that Disney was going to buy and take over Lucasfilm, the company most famous for the Star Wars franchise. As of December 21st Disney now owns Lucasfilm and it's assets, announced by the President and Chief Executive Officer Robert A. Iger.

"We're thrilled to welcome Lucasfilm to the Disney family," Iger said. "Star Wars' is one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time and this transaction combines that world class content with Disney's unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets, which we believe will generate growth as well as significant long-term value."

Along with 37,076.679 shares, a payment of $2,208,199,950 (US) was made to Lucasfilm, the final total coming close to about $4.06 (US) Billion. The assets acquired include operating businesses in live action film production, consumer products, animation, visual effects and audio post production. It covers the names Lucasfilm LTD, LucasArts and Skywalker Sound.

No small sum of money, but that's no small gain for Disney by any stretch of the imagination. Disney are planning on releasing a new Star Wars trilogy, being penned in part by some of the writers from the original movies. Although information has surfaced online as to what these plots could entail, they have been confirmed to be false leaks.

Australian Box Office Figures Dec 13-16

Skyfall remains at the top of the table for another week! For the fourth week in a row Skyfall has sat in the top spot, making another $3.19 million dollars last weekend. The latest Bond movie has earned in total an extra $10 million dollars than the final Twilight movie, dropping again from third to fourth making only $695,000. Dreamworks Rise of the Guardians has had a strong opening, entering the table at second place bringing in a whopping $2.5 million. As the Twilight movie is pushed further and further down the table as more and more superior movies are released, it almost gives mankind hope, that those shitty teenage vampires are not as immortal as they believed!

Dreamworks releases Turbo Trailer

It must be said, that I have a true love for animated movies, if its disney / pixar / dreamworks chances are I will love it. Of recent years, I have been fortunate enough to be on top of most of the movie announcements, and have been able to follow the movies through out their development. Once such movie that I have recently been stalking, is Dreamworks Turbo, and the teaser trailer is FINALLY out.

The movie stars Ryan Reynolds as a young snail with a passion for speed and racing, but is always brought back to reality by his older brother Chet, played by Paul Giamatti. After a freak accident, he is given the opportunity to live his dreams, when he is given super speed and is transformed into a racing-car-snail, with headlights and tail lights to boot.

The rest of the cast include (to name a few) Snoop Lion (formerly known as Snoop Dogg), Samuel Jackson, Luiz Guzman and Michelle Rodriguez.

Game Over for Registered Sex Offenders

New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced yesterday through his site that companies including THQ and Funcom have joined Operation Game Over and pledged to remove the accounts of registered sex offenders from their games. The newest lot of 2000 or so offenders have had their accounts removed, joining the 3,500 removed earlier in the year by companies such as Microsoft, Apple, Blizzard and Sony.

According to Schneiderman “The Internet is the crime scene of the 21st century, and we must ensure that online video game platforms do not become a digital playground for dangerous predators. That means doing everything possible to block sex offenders from using gaming systems as a vehicle to prey on underage victims. I applaud the online gaming companies that have purged registered sex offenders from their networks in time for the holiday season. Together, we are making the online community a safer place for the children of New York.”

New York State has introduced an Act that says convicted sex offenders must register all of their e-mail address, screen names, and other Internet identifiers with the state. Operation Game Over is the first time that the act, labelled e-STOP, has been applied to online gaming platforms.

The United States has approximately 750,000 offenders total, 34,000 of which are in New York alone. Operation Game Over continues its aim of protecting children from sexual predators online, and paves the way for other countries to introduce the same procedure. Australia had over 17,000 acts of sexual assault in 2010 alone.

Godus reaches Kickstarter goal

With just under a day left of their Kickstarter project Godus, 22 Cans headed and founded by Ex-Lionhead Studios Lead Designer Peter Molyneux, has exceeded their goal of 450,000 Pounds by almost 50,000.

Godus is a spiritual successor to the famed Black and White series, published by Molyneux and Lionhead. The game will task players with reigning over a world, and being a deity to a race of people much in the same way that Black and White did. The team are hoping to bring god-based gameplay to a whole new generation of players, claiming that they want "to make gaming meaningful".

With the funds raised so far, they have promised an extra 3 single player and multiplayer game modes, a social feature where you can create your own sect online, they have secured BAFTA winner James Leach who wrote the Black and White series to write the game. If another 2000 can be raised in the last 16 hours then they will also include a Multi-player and obsession mode in the final game.

You can follow the end of the project or donate to it with the link here.

The Legend Continues...

GREAT ODINS BEARD! Get your jazz flutes ready people, as in one years time, on December 20th 2013, we will once again journey into "A whales vagina".

For those of you who dont know what that means, firstly FOR SHAME. Secondly, in Lamens terms, Anchorman 2 will be released on 20th December 2013.

The concept of this movie has been teased by producers and actors alike, mentioning that they are discussing it, or openly saying they will do it if it goes ahead, but no date or official time has been set for it, all that was released was the teaser stating 2013.

Finaly, as of today, 20th December 2012, Paramount Pictures has announced the date for the Anchorman sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues to be 20th December 2013.
Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner are all back for the feature film once again under the banner of Judd Apatow. No mention of baxter as of yet though.

THQ Ensures That It's Titles Will Still Hit The Market

THQ has consolidated with an investor, Clearlake, and revealed that Clearlake are interested in buying majority of THQ's components. That is: the developing teams, THQ titles, scripts and all copyrighted material, and even current projects with their contractual ties. Clearlake is providing the opportunity for THQ to rebuilt it's company from the debt that it currently faces, as Clearlake is providing enough money for current THQ projects to be finished and released to the market. Clearlake is even looking at providing a large enough investment in THQ to subsidize future planned THQ titles.

Bankruptcy however is a necessary step for THQ to continue and successfully rebuilt itself. The term, despite its traditional negative connotation, should in fact bring joy to the fans of THQ rather than fear. By launching applications for Bankruptcy the company will be able to rebuilt itself, with the help of investors such as Clearlake, rather than being forced to liquidize the company.

Ultimately once the public is able to clear speculation, and with a little education on fiancee  majority of the public will be able to rejoice at the opportunity that was given to THQ to continue to impress us with its outstanding game history.

Done Did It looks forward to more titles such as Saint's Row, Dawn of War and Company of Heroes.

Vin Diesel set to return as Riddick in 2013

Among the other sequels and prequels that we will be seeing in 2013, Riddick, the next sequel in The Chronicles of Riddick, will be hitting screens globally in September 2013.
The official plot line is as follows:

"The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless.  Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered.  The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.
The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal.  With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy."

Comparisons are already being made to Pitch Black, the first movie of the series that screened back in 2000 and notably filmed in our very own Coober Pedy, where Riddick found himself, on a sun scorched planet appearning to be lifeless and fighting alien predators...

But is this such a bad thing? To be similar to the first, far better movie of the series?
