No other information has been confirmed for the project as of yet, but during an Investor call, CFO John K Martin has stated that we will see the release of the sequel in 2013.
"And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012." The full transcript of his comments can be seen on Yahoo! Finance.
The third entry in the Arkham series was bound to happen at some stage, the success of the first two games is not something you could ignore. The developer of the first two games, Rocksteady games, has hinted that it's next game will not be Batman-based, so the series could enter new hands for this entry.
Variety even claimed that the next Batman game would be a Silver Age prequel that could touch on members of the Justice League, and the first meeting of the Joker.
This is the first we've heard that the game would be this early, most people assuming it would be 2014 or later. Some people are a little thrown by this, as it's only been two years since the last game, but it's important to note that the previous game came out two years after the original anyway. It's intriguing to think that a game could be coming this early and we still know no concrete information on it, but who's to say that this isn't a good thing? We seem to know too much on games, years before their release, maybe suspense is what's been missing from the industry for quite some time. This information comes to us shortly after the confirmation that the newest Saints Row game will also be coming out this year to, again with no prior information or current knowledge. Maybe we are seeing a change in games publishing, but would you say this is for better? Or for worse?
