20,000 Leagues "Down Under" the Sea

David Fincher set to direct Disney adaptation of 20,000 Leagues under the Sea and Australia is showing its interest

Australian Government are offering a huge tax rebate to Disney for the studio to shoot their upcoming adaptation of Jules Vernes 20,000 Leagues under the Sea on our sunny shores. The exact figure is at this stage unknown, Deadline has reported that the Australian Arts Minister Simon Crean is currently trying to finalise a $12.2 million payment to Disney while THR has reported a figure closer to $19 million.

David Fincher (Fight Club, Se7en, Benjamin Button) has been attached to direct the movie for several years now, and Disney had reportedly been trying to shave the budget more before proceeding with the project. With the tax rebate incentives that Australia is offering it is highly likely that the film could be green lit very shortly, the government meeting with Disney to finalise the deal as of Thursday 21/02/13.

The locations currently being looked at for shooting are in the Gold Coast and in Sydney, two of our best coasts, and as of yet no information is confirmed regarding the cast, but reports are suggesting that Brad Pitt is Finchers pick to play Ned Land, the story's protagonist.

The project is reportedly going to be a massive production, that will bring about around 2000 jobs for Australian workers. We may be getting some good news, and another iconic Australian film, as of this Thursday!
