Sources confirm that this leaked image is in fact the PlayStation 4 controller, albeit an early prototype
We've seen countless "leaked" PS4 controllers during the build up to the presumed PS4 announcement, at the upcoming Sony presentation on Feb 20th. Some of them are just plain bizarre while others come across as much more feasible. The above photo is the most recent "leaked" image of the controller, and trusted sources have confirmed that this is the controller albeit an early prototype for it.
Destructoid revealed the image, coming from an unknown source, and while other parties have reached out to Sony for comment, they have stated the usual response that they "can't comment on any rumours or speculation".
So whats new? The thumb sticks are said to be further apart than before, although they are still level with each other unlike the 360's ergonomic controller, but just like the Xbox the thumb sticks have been made concave to fit the thumb itself.
The much talked about "touch screen" is apparently present on the front of the pad, with a rumoured "share" button barely visible to the top left of it.
The glowing light on the top is leading us to believe its move related, incorporating the motion based technology that found success on the PS3 already.
A speaker is above the PlayStation button with a headphone jack on the bottom, presumably for headsets.
Overall, the design looks bulkier than its predecessors, almost cumbersome to some extent, but as this is just a "prototype" we will probably be looking at several more design changes before its release. The controller is almost reminiscent of Nintendo's recent WiiU console, incorporating individual pieces of the products that came before it, IE the touch screen of the PS Vita, the motion functionality of the PlayStation Move, all strapped onto the regular PlayStation controller.
Done Did It judgement is being reserved for now, and we hope to see how it works in action at the Sony event on the 20th to get a better idea of how we could be playing our games, in the very near future.
